HOW THE NEW APPLE MAC STUDIO FITS IN TO THE PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER'S WORK FLOW?

Mac Studio with M1 Max and the new M1 Ultra delivers unprecedented performance and extensive connectivity in an incredibly compact design

APPLE MAC STUDIO

The new dawn of computing power for the professional photographer and photo editor has just been dropped on us. Yes it is the new Apple’s mac studio. It looks like a mac mini ate another mac mini. They stuff the Mac studio with a M1 max and their brand new M1 ultra chip which is basically two M1 max chips fused together.

The M1 chip was already pretty decent for normal editing when it first came out but with this new set of chips, it is surpassing even the fully maxed out mac pros that used to cost five figure sums. Only the top studios would be able to afford it. The new mac studios are actually quite a good bargain starting from around 2.8k for the M1 Max while the M1 Ultra is going close to 6k.

DOES THE PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER NEED THIS MUCH POWER?

To put things in to perspective, I used to use a iMac 2013 with the ram maxed out to edit large automotive campaigns. It was a test of patience as changing and saving things on the file that is a couple gigabytes would takes a few minutes each time. It was already much better than the load times when I was an intern at a high end production house with top end Mac machines, which the photo editor would click the file they want to edit open and they went off for a 1 hour coffee break before the would open. I am pretty sure this new mac studio would open and edit those files in seconds even with the base model based on what we seen on the Apple’s M1 max Macbook pro 16 inch. With 64gb of unified memory as base and upgradable to 128gb of unified memory, this is the machine that the creative professionals have dreamt of and waited for.

At the end of the day, you can still do your work on cheaper and older models but you might lose quite a few strands of hair in the process as camera mega pixels are getting bigger and the layers pile up over time. With the new mac studio, we can do work faster and enjoy your life more.

To sum it up, does the professional photographer need the new mac studio? I would say no, it is not necessary however it is also a yes because it is really good value for that power. it is at a great price point compared to the five figure sum Mac Pros and very good value. Finally a computer that can keep up with the creative professional demands. Thank you Apple.
